From September 25–28, we will present our non-profit booth DOMINANCIA at Budapest Contemporary in the Bálna. This project continues the path we’ve built with Gittinger WINE+ART: bringing natural winemaking and contemporary art into dialogue, and asking how humans can step out of dominance and move towards partnership with nature.
Can nature be our partner — not just a resource?
DOMINANCIA raises this question directly. For too long, our relationship with the Earth has been defined by control, extraction, and measurement. With this booth, we want to explore an alternative — one where art and wine show how collaboration with living systems creates meaning, depth, and resilience.
Six artists, six voices
We invited six Hungarian and international artists whose works all reflect on the tension between dominance and partnership:
🇭🇺 Eperjesi Ágnes — Home (2016), exploring the fragile balance between “home” and the land beneath us.
🇭🇺 Illés Zsófia Szonja — Wild Water Country, a multisensory installation and performative “land-tasting” rooted in the ecological knowledge of the Tisza floodplain.
🇪🇸 Asunción Molinos Gordo — ¡Cuánto río allá arriba! (How many rivers above!), ceramic “water totems” recalling collective water ethics and warning against privatization.
🇯🇵 Yuken Teruya — Monopoly Series, intricate works cut from toy money, asking what lies beyond market value.
🇭🇺 Szalay Péter — NATURE (2021), a rifle barrel bent into the word “NATURE,” turning control into allegory.
🇭🇺 Vékony Dorottya — Gaze (2025), speculative plant portraits that question the future of pollinators and human intervention.
Wine as equal participant
For us, natural wine is not a backdrop but an equal voice in this dialogue. Just like the artworks, our wines and ciders from Szent György-hegy are created through patience, respect for terroir, and minimal intervention. Tasting them at the booth becomes part of the experience — a reminder that partnership with nature can be sensorial, direct, and communal.

Why this matters to us
At Gittinger, we believe both natural wine and contemporary art are tools for rethinking our place in the world. DOMINANCIA is our way of bringing these practices together to suggest alternatives to dominance: collaboration, patience, attention, and respect.
We invite you to join us in Budapest to taste, see, and reflect.
